Betla National Park, located in the Latehar district of Jharkhand, India, is a haven for wildlife enthusiasts and nature lovers. Established in 1986 as one of India’s first national parks, it spans over 979 square kilometres, encompassing lush forests, sprawling grasslands, and captivating waterfalls. The park is a part of the Palamau Tiger Reserve, renowned for its tiger population and rich biodiversity.

Betla, an acronym for Bison, Elephant, Tiger, Leopard, and Axis (Deer), reflects the variety of wildlife found here. In addition to these iconic species, the park is home to sloth bears, wild boars, langurs, and several bird species, making it a paradise for birdwatchers. The landscape also features ancient forts, adding historical charm to the natural splendour.
The park offers jeep safaris for visitors, providing an immersive experience in its dense sal and bamboo forests. The picturesque Koyal River flows through the park, enhancing its scenic beauty. With its serene environment and diverse flora and fauna, Betla National Park is a must-visit destination for eco-tourism in India.

Charles and Ray Eames were a groundbreaking American design duo known for their influential contributions to architecture, furniture design, industrial design, and filmmaking. Charles, an architect, and Ray, a painter, combined their talents to create some of the most iconic designs of the 20th century, blending functionality with aesthetic beauty.

Their most famous works include the Eames Lounge Chair and Ottoman (1956), a luxurious yet comfortable piece that remains a symbol of mid-century modern design and is described as the “chair of the century,”. Beyond furniture, their short film Powers of Ten (1977) remains a landmark in scientific visualisation.

The Eames’ philosophy centered on problem-solving through design, and their legacy continues to influence modern designers, proving that good design is both timeless and functional.

Reading Between the Lines is a striking architectural installation by the Belgian design duo Gijs Van Vaerenbergh, consisting of Pieterjan Gijs and Arnout Van Vaerenbergh. This unique structure is a semi-transparent church located in Borgloon, Belgium. Made of stacked horizontal steel plates with strategic gaps, the church appears solid from certain angles but nearly disappears into the landscape when viewed from others.

The design plays with perception, light, and space, challenging traditional ideas of architecture and materiality. Measuring about 10 meters high, the structure consists of 100 stacked layers of weathered steel, carefully spaced to create an effect of transparency and openness. This allows visitors to “read between the lines” of the church’s form, blending the built environment with nature.

The installation is part of the Z-OUT project, an initiative to bring contemporary art into public spaces. Reading Between the Lines reflects themes of spirituality, transience, and perspective, making it a thought-provoking fusion of art, architecture, and landscape.
